Standard Communities Breaks Ground on 141 Units of Affordable Housing in Charlotte’s Camp North End

by Lynn Peisner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Standard Communities has broken ground on Joyfield Rise at Woodward, a 141-unit affordable housing redevelopment project in Charlotte’s North End. Apartments will be reserved for renters earning between 30 and 80 percent of area median income. Completion is slated for 2028. The community is located within Camp North End, a 76-acre redevelopment of a former industrial site first occupied by the Ford Motor Co. in 1924 and later, in the Cold War era, by the U.S. government for missile manufacturing.

Jamestown, which is the owner and operator of the larger project, is contributing infrastructure funding for the Joyfield Rise at Woodward project. Camp North End will consist of office, residential, retail, restaurants and bars, public gathering space, event venues, and public art installations. The project has been in motion since about 2016. Future phases of development are ongoing.
